Opportunities for USITT Student Members USITT's Annual Conference offers many diverse opportunities for its student members. All events have differing requirements, so please review the information carefully. For programs which require applications, the PDF forms are linked to the information below.

H & H Specialties Student Conference Support H & H Specialties provides Conference registration support for six student members who have been USITT members for at least one year and who register for the Annual Conference & Stage Expo before the Very Early Registration deadline of December 17, 2009. Students are chosen at random from all those who are eligible. Winners are notified in early January 2010.
Sapsis Rigging Professional Development Support
Students who sign up for Rigging Fundamentals with Jay Glerum will be eligible for the Sapsis Rigging Professional Development Support for 2010. Bill Sapsis and his colleagues at Sapsis Rigging are providing this significant level of assistance for two students who register for the workshop before the Early Deadline of February 18, 2010. There is no application process. All that is necessary is for students to register for the Rigging Fundamentals workshop by February 18. Two students will be chosen at random by the USITT office staff. USITT greatly appreciates the support of professional development for student members which Sapsis Rigging is again underwriting in 2010.
Stage Management Mentoring Project For the 20th year, USITT offers students and young professionals interested in stage management an opportunity for a real-life training experience. Those selected will work with professional stage managers to help coordinate major Conference events. Students and mentors work together to guide the varied and often complex events.

Young Designers' Forum The Young Designers' Forum is a special program which brings together talented students with established designers. After a juried assessment process,15 students will be selected as participants. Those who are chosen submit their work for review and discussion with established designers and directors, and the work will then be on display to all who attend the Conference.

Young Technicians' Forum The Young Technicians' Forum is a new program, similar to Young Designers’ Forum, which brings together talented students with established technicians. After a juried assessment process,15 students will be selected to participate. Those who are chosen submit their work for review and discussion with established technicians in closed session, and the work will then be on display to all who attend the Conference.

Awards for Young Designers & Technicians
Each year USITT honors those who are just embarking on their professional careers with Awards for Young Designers & Technicians in the Performing Arts. The awards are presented as part of the Annual Conference. All nominations for the awards must be made by members of the Institute. Student Volunteer Program
In exchange for at least 15 hours of work at the Conference, USITT will waive the conference registration fee for up to 100 Student Volunteers. Assignments vary from conference office support, A/V and computer assistance, Stage Expo special exhibition set-up and tear down, and many other opportunities.
"Ideal Theatre" Design Competition
The competition poses the design question, “What is the Ideal Theatre for teaching professional theatre”? This question is to be explored and answered by a “Team” composed of at least one theatre student currently enrolled in a college or university theatre program and one architectural student enrolled in an accredited architectural college or university program.

USITT's 2010 Conference Employment Service offers a way for employers to review and meet with many qualified candidates, or those seeking new challenges to review opportunities. Interviews for summer employment and internships are also possible. Click here for more information.
Makeup Competition Sponsored by Kryolan at Stage Expo On Wednesday, March 31, Kryolan will sponsor a makeup competition on Center Stage at Stage Expo. The competition is open all college and university students, as well as those who graduated within the past year.
The morning session, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, will feature character makeup, and fantasy will be the theme for the afternoon session from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Winners will receive an engraved glass trophy and Premium Makeup Brushes, compliments of Kryolan. Each participant will be given a list of the supplied makeup in advance of the competition, and will keep the makeup after the competition – a $250 value, provided by Kryolan.
Participants are asked to provide their own brushes, and will work from photographs and drawings. The competition is limited to the first sixteen students who enter – eight in the morning and eight in the afternoon – so get your application in early!
Applying is easy. Just send a one page version of your resume with photographs of two examples of recent makeup work, along with your NAME, CURRENT ADDRESS AND EMAIL, PHONE, YEAR IN SCHOOL, OR DATE OF GRADUATION, AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION to:

Please submit your application no later than March 1, 2010. Participants will be chosen on a “first come – first served” basis, so get you application in as soon as possible.
