Applications Open For 2024 Hemsley Lighting Internship Program

Hemsley Lighting Programs is restarting the annual Hemsley Internship Program, which honors the legacy of Gilbert Hemsley by providing professional training experience to early career designers.
In the 39th year of the program, two successful applicants will be given the opportunity to work in a professional repertory situation with resident and guest designers at San Francisco Opera, New York City Ballet, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre. A monthly stipend of $3,000 is provided in addition to travel expenses.
- Applications are open from January 1 to 14, 2024
- Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, a one-page statement of personal goals and anticipated benefits from the internship, and three letters of recommendation
- Applicants must have finished their undergraduate or graduate training
- The Internship is only offered to US citizens
- The Internship cannot be used for academic credit
Interviews for finalists will be held in New York in early April 2024 for two internship experiences:
- Early June through mid-August at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera working on 6 musicals with lighting designer Paul Miller.
- Mid-July through end of February 2025, providing the opportunity to work with resident and guest designers at San Francisco Opera, New York City Ballet, and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre.
