Rigging Safety Initiative
Applications for Fall 2024 Cycle are now closed. Please check back in the Spring.
Ready to level-up safety in your school's theatre? The RSI offers FREE stage rigging inspections and safety training for secondary schools across America. Schools can apply for the service twice a year, in spring and fall.
The RSI is open to all secondary schools nationwide. Once a school's application is approved, they choose from a list of participating ETCP certified rigging inspectors in their area. The best part? USITT pays the inspector directly for the inspection and four to six hours of safety training for faculty and student stage crew. The only cost to schools may be the inspector's travel and housing — if necessary — and any special equipment such as a lift to access the system. USITT has a national network of inspectors, so many schools find their cost is ZERO.
You‘ll receive a comprehensive status report on your rigging system that highlights what's working great and how to prevent potential safety issues. Plus, up to eight staff and students receive free safety training to master the complexities of your system. Thanks to our phenomenal sponsors and donors, we're championing safe stages for students with little to no cost to schools. Let's make safety a priority and education a guarantee!
