Committees & Appointments

This page contains information about USITT's committee structure and links to full membership lists for each committee. It also lists appointments in the organization including liaisons that are appointed by the President. USITT is proud that one of its members, Michael Ramsaur, is President of OISTAT.

Committees

Committee chairs are appointed by the USITT Executive Committee. Members of the committee are appointed by their supervising officer and committee chairs. The USITT President and President-Elect, when this position is filled, are ex officio members of all committees. The By-Laws (PDF) of the Institute contain full descriptions and responsibilities of the committees.

Annual Conference & Stage Expo

Recommends dates, sites, policies and procedures for the Annual Conference & Stage Expo. Actively works to produce the Annual Conference & Stage Expo. [current members]

Awards & Resolutions

Recommends recipients of the USITT Award, Joel E. Rubin Founders Award, Thomas DeGaetani Award, Distinguished Achievement Awards, and Special Citations. [current members]

By-Laws

Responsible for recommending amendments to the corporate By-Laws as needed. [current members]

Design Expo

Responsible for recommending policies for Design Expo and Cover the Walls and planning and implementing the biennial exhibitions. [current members]

Executive Committee

Provides the President with advice and counsel. Acts for the Board of Directors between meetings when necessary. [current members]

Finance

Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors. Monitors budget and recommends adjustments as needed and considers the investment strategies for Institute funds. [current members]

Grants & Fellowships

Responsible for recommending recipients of grants and fellowships from the Edward F. Kook Fund. [current members]

International

Responsible for establishing and maintaining communications with international associations and professional groups. [current members]

Membership

Encourages the growth of USITT membership in all categories. Makes recommendations on membership policy to the Board of Directors. [current members]

Nominations

Prepares the annual slate of candidates for the Board of Directors for election by the membership. For a more detailed description of this committee's structure and responsibilities see the Election Process page. [membership]

Planning

Responsible for preparation of the annual operating plan and overall organizational strategies of the Institute for approval by the Board of Directors. [current members]

Publications

Responsible for recommending policy for all publications matters to the Board of Directors. Responsible for review of new publications and bookshelf items. [current members]

Stage Expo Exhibitors

Responsible for representing Stage Expo exhibitors. The committee provides a forum where exhibitors can communicate with the Board of Directors, Commissions, and other committees. [current members]

Standards

Responsible for verification that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met in the development, revision, reaffirmation, or withdrawal of a USITT Standard, Guideline, or Recommended Practice. Also responsible for the administration of the procedures dictated by the USITT Procedures for Creating Standards and interacting with other organizations that create similar documentation. Student Liaison

Responsible for encouraging student membership and development of student chapters. [current members]

Tech Expo

Responsible for recommending policies regarding the Theatre Technology Exhibit and for planning and implementing the biennial exposition. [current members]
