Position Description Overview:
Heartbeat Opera is looking for a Production Manager for our upcoming production of FAUST at the Baruch Performing Arts Center in April/May of 2025. Responsible for all typical duties of a theatrical Production Manager, including overseeing the technical creation of the production from final design stages including shop bids, lighting plot, rentals, and costume logistics, through recruiting, scheduling, and overseeing all load-in and tech crews, including final strike. This role works closely with the Artistic Director and Executive Director in executing and implementing high quality production and performances, while adhering to safety standards, timelines, and budgets.
Primary responsibilities include directing all production planning and operations in a safe, orderly, and efficient manner. The Production Manager will oversee various departments and staff, which include, but are not limited to: the stage management team, technical teams, set, prop, sound, lighting, and costume departments, production assistants, run crew, as well as vendors and freelance contractors.
Location/Remote:
The Production Manager position may be managed remotely during pre-production, provided candidate has a robust network of scenic and rental shop connections in the New York area, and a full rolodex of technicians to hire. During the tech and production periods, Production Manager must be on site.
Responsibilities include:
Lead production meetings, facilitate clear communication between directors, designers, technical crew, and administrative staff.
Oversee load-in and load-out, and strike processes, ensuring efficiency and safety.
Manage production budget as provided by the Artistic Director
Serve as liaison between Stage Director and technical teams
Coordinate with venue and venue staff
Negotiate and oversee scenic shop bids, lighting rentals, and equipment/rentals for all departments
Oversee Technical Director, together serving as the primary points of contact for all technical questions and issues
Devise load-in, tech, and strike schedules, including hiring all labor
Skills required:
Significant experience in Production Managing opera and/or theater at an Off-off-Broadway level (Off-broadway level preferred).
Experience scheduling, budgeting, and hiring load-in and tech crews.
Knowledge and connections to New York-based shops and rental houses
Great communicator, grace under pressure

Production dates: April 14 - May 25, 2025
Room rehearsals : Apr 14 - May 6
Load-in and focus : May 5-7
Tech : May 7-12
Performances : May 13-25
Strike and Load-out : May 25
Location: Baruch Performing Arts Center, NYC
Fee = $7,000 inclusive
