We are seeking a full-time Technical Designer for immediate hire. This position is responsible for planning and executing safe, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions for pre-existing design concepts in live entertainment and retail projects. In collaboration with the project manager, the Technical Designer will determine construction methods, build CAD models to generate construction drawings, create material orders, and communicate technical intent to the fabrication team.
Since opening in 2002, Daedalus has built a diverse client base and a reputation for producing some of the highest caliber work in New York theater. Daedalus primarily focuses on creating complex sets and props for Broadway, Off-Broadway, and (inter)national tours, as well as innovative projects in retail, TV, and hospitality. In 2021, we moved to a new 35,000+ square foot facility in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This move has significantly improved our capacity, allowing us to take on larger and more complex projects. The additional space has also enabled us to expand our shop's manufacturing capabilities with the addition of two CNC routers, a tube laser, a 5-axis hot wire foam cutter, and SLS 3D printing, while also providing room for future growth as technology evolves
-Inventor is the company standard parametric modeling package. Proficiency is preferred, although training is available for the right candidate. 4+ of other CAD experience with be considered in lieu of Inventor.
-Hands-on experience working in an environment that incorporates CNC machines, tube lasers, and plate lasers as part of their production and fabrication processes.
-In depth knowledge of standard theatrical construction techniques and associated materials - wood, steel, aluminum, and plastics
