POSITION DETAILS

The Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College is dedicated to the presentation of performing arts programming of all disciplines with a special focus on how the artistic imagination can shed light on the many perceptions of justice in our society. Reporting directly to the Managing Director at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, the successful candidate will be responsible for both internal and external clients in the Gerald W. Lynch Theater and related venues on campus.

The Performing Arts Theater Specialist will report directly to and work collaboratively with the General Manager to create policy, schedule and manage clients, draft estimates, advise on all technical matters, and implement departmental and institutional goals.

The Performing Arts Theater Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the technical operations, staffing, and facility management of the performing arts venue. This role ensures seamless execution of events, maintains compliance with safety regulations, and upholds the highest standards of professionalism and customer service as needed;

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes for theater operations.

Oversee the technical management of a performing arts facility, coordinating events and productions year-round, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Serve as the primary liaison between clients and production crews, ensuring high-quality execution of events with professionalism and excellent customer service.

Supervise, train, and schedule a roaster of 60+ stagehands and technical staff, maintaining high service standards for clients and college departments.

Coordinate with external production teams to schedule and manage technical and logistical aspects of performances.

Maintain accurate technical documentation, including drafting plans and specifications for theater facilities and equipment.

Collaborate with campus departments, including Public Safety, Facilities, Engineering, and IT, to manage security, maintenance, and technology needs for theater operations.

Oversee capital improvement projects, equipment procurement, and inventory management, ensuring system upgrades and maintenance align with operational goals.

Perform related duties as assigned

Nights and weekends & holiday and overtime work REQUIRED

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
New York residency
Knowledge of IATSE rules and regulations
Management experience preferred
