Summary

Summary:
Des Moines Metro Opera seeks two technicians for the 2025 OPERA Iowa troupe (February 3 through April 29, 2025). Ideally, the technicians selected will return to DMMO during the 2025 summer season as scenic or lighting staff.

As part of an 8-week regional arts education tour, OPERA Iowa performances will include touring productions of Cinderella (written and adapted by Joshua Borths with music by Rossini and Massenet) and The Billy Goats Gruff (arranged by John Davies with music by Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti).

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assisting in the creation of scenery, creating/sourcing props for the touring productions.
• Creating a simple light design using an EOS board & operating the board during shows.
• Leading load in/load out at each venue with the help of a volunteer crew.
• Driving a 26-foot box truck when out on the road

Dates of Employment:
Monday, February 3 – Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Compensation:
$750/week during the rehearsal and touring period.
$300 travel stipend to be paid upon arrival.
Housing during the length of the contract.
Per diem while out on the tour.

Qualifications and Skills
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
• 2+ years of experience working in a scene shop or lighting technician.
• Minimum BA/BFA in Theatre or equivalent professional experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience driving a 26-foot box truck is preferred.
• Prior touring experience is preferred.
