ADJ’s WMX1 MK2 Upgraded Stand-Alone DMX Lighting Controller with 15,000+ Fixture Profiles
August 26, 2024
Designed to create high-impact light shows on the fly without a computer, the WMX1 revolutionized the lighting industry. Building on that success, the upgraded WMX1 MK2 introduces user-inspired enhancements while continuing the tradition with an intuitive workflow, powerful internal FX engine, and tactile controls. These features make it simple for anyone to command a DMX lighting rig with multiple fixture types from different brands.
Powered By WOLFMIX
At the core of the WMX1 MK2 is the WOLFMIX engine, a groundbreaking lighting control technology developed in Europe. This powerful yet compact controller is designed to start up in under two seconds, enabling users to create stunning light displays on the fly without the need for a computer. The device’s intuitive workflow, robust internal FX engine, and hands-on controls make it accessible to a wide range of users, from professionals to enthusiasts.
What’s New with the MK2?
WMX1 MK2 upgrades include four larger encoder caps for a more tactile feel, MIDI triggering, and an added USB-A socket to link with MIDI faders and sync with MIDI clock, or to insert a memory stick to backup projects and fixtures.
User-Friendly Setup and Control of any Brand of Lighting Fixtures
Setting up this controller is straightforward, thanks to its 4.3-inch capacitive touch TFT screen. The menu interface allows easy selection, addressing, and grouping of fixtures. The controller comes pre-loaded with over 3,500 fixture profiles, and the accompanying WTOOLS app provides access to 15,000 profiles. The app also includes a Fixture Builder for creating custom profiles and a Fixture Calibration tool, making it easy to work with a variety of lighting setups.
Once configured, the WMX1 MK2 supports independent control of up to eight fixture groups, with 37 backlit silicone buttons and four rotary push encoders. Users can trigger and customize three different FX engines—Color, Move, and Beam—independently for each group. The controller also allows smooth transitions between effects, with the option to blend two effects during a fade.
Customization and Advanced Features
The WMX1 MX2 is highly customizable, with the ability to store up to 100 presets per project and assign custom names to each group. The controller also supports auto-play for cue lists, with options for custom fade and hold times. Dedicated buttons for Strobe, Blinder, Speed, Blackout, and Smoke effects provide additional on-the-fly control.
Out of the box, the WMX1 MK2 supports two DMX universe, with two additional universes available as upgrades via the WTOOLS app. The device features four output sockets (two 3-pin and two 5-pin DMX connections), with the ability to map any universe to any output, effectively functioning as a DMX splitter. The controller also includes an internal microphone, a 3.5mm line input for automated BPM detection, and a manual BPM tap button, making it ideal for syncing lighting effects with music.
Color Picker and Additional Tools
The WMX1 MK2’s Color Picker interface simplifies selecting the perfect hue for RGBW and RGBWA+UV LED fixtures. Other useful features include automatic matching of similar gobos across different fixtures, a Fixture FLIP function for reversing beam order, and a Fixture SPLIT function for splitting multi-FX bars. The device also supports Auto-recovery of the active project, eliminating the need for manual saving.
Expansion and Visualization Options
For those looking to expand their control setup, the WMX1 MK2 offers the optional WLINK feature. This allows two MK2 units to be connected, providing simultaneous access to all eight lighting groups without needing the Shift key. Alternatively, the units can be placed in different locations within a venue, such as one behind the bar and another in a DJ booth, allowing for versatile control options.
Another optional add-on is the Easy View 3D visualization software, which enables users to create a virtual representation of their lighting rig for remote programming. This software is compatible with both Mac and PC and connects to the WMX1 MK2 via USB, allowing users to visualize their lighting effects in real-time without needing the physical fixtures on hand.
Built for Performance
Despite its compact size and lightweight design (2.36lb / 1070g), the WMX1 is built to last, with a robust ABS plastic shell, a powder-coated steel base plate, and a reinforced back plate. Its powerful internal processing, featuring a 220MHz CPU with ARM core and 8MB RAM / 16MB flash memory, allows for complex effects to be layered and executed in real-time.
“The WMX1 revolutionized lighting design for performance-focused professionals,” says Alfred Gonzales, ADJ USA’s National Sales Manager. “With the WMX1 MK2, we’ve added practical upgrades while preserving the intuitive interface and powerful engine that allow for the creation of intricate light shows with hands-on control. Whether in a club, bar, or mobile entertainment setup, the WMX1 MK2 empowers users to unleash their creativity, using not only ADJ lights but over 15,000 fixture profiles.”
