Beware of Phishing and Pirating Scams!
February 18, 2022
Please be aware of phishing and pirating scams!
Be advised, no matter what, NO ONE HAS OUR ATTENDEE LIST. This scam impacts every attendee because it makes it sound like we are selling your information and we aren’t. We don’t do that. Ever. USITT does not share its registration list or make it available for resale.
Attendees can opt-in to receive information from exhibitors, but it is just that, an opt-in. Exhibitors can send you materials IF you opt-in, but that’s the only way.
Here is an example of an actual email that was received by a USITT22 exhibitor several days ago, claiming to be able to sell a list that does not exist.
In recent years, many of these scammers have preyed on folks looking to book hotel rooms, but with the return of live shows, there has been an exponential increase in mailing list scams across the association industry.
Remember, no matter how real these emails may look, they are ALL scams. NO ONE HAS OUR ATTENDEE LIST. Those lists are not shared and typically what you get is something gleaned from a Google search, if it is relevant at all.
IMPORTANT: Check the sender's email address. If it is NOT from a name @usitt.org, it is NOT from USITT. The only people you would be hearing from are found HERE.
"Alesha Dixon" does not work for USITT and probably does not even exist. However, this pirate scraped our site and/or social media and copied our logo hoping to trick you.
You can either simply delete the message, or you can forward it to Jody Harris in the National Office. The more we know about the aliases these “list pirates” are using, the more precise we can be in our efforts to combat them.
