Heritage Auction to Hold Sale of Tony Walton Designs

On May 16, Heritage Auctions will hold a sale titled "Tony Walton: Designer of Dreams Hollywood/Entertainment." Walton, who died in 2022, designed scenery and costumes for innumerable films and Broadway shows and was a past USITT Distinguished Achievement Award winner for scene design.
The items on sale include caricatures for Playbill, costumes and storyboards from the film Mary Poppins, production designs from the film The Boy Friend, costume sketches from the film Murder on the Orient Express, costume maquettes and concept art from the film The Wiz, scenic designs and promotional artwork for the musical Sophisticated Ladies, set models for hit Broadway revivals of Guys and Dolls and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, among many others. Also included are several Academy Award nomination plaques.
The auction will take place at Heritage Auction's Dallas location, but bidding begins on April 10 and can be accessed here.
A highlights-only preview will be held at Heritage's New York location, 445 Park Avenue, April 14-18, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.. A full preview will take place in Dallas at 2801 W. Airport Freeway.
