Lucille Lortel Winners Announced

The Lortels honor the best off-Broadway theater of the season. Winners of the 2024 Lucille Lortel Awards, honoring outstanding achievement off-Broadway, were announced at a ceremony on May 5 at NYU Skirball.

There were 75 eligible productions during the 2023-24 off-Broadway season, with 39 of those shows receiving at least one nomination. The most nominated show of the season was the Playwrights Horizons/MCC Theater production of Wet Brain, which received eight nominations. The winningest show of the night was Ars Nova/National Black Theatre production of (pray), which took home three trophies, including Outstanding Musical

In the design categories, Kate Noll was cited for the scenic design of the science fiction-inflected family drama Wet Brain, produced by Playwrights Horizons. Lux Haac won in the costume design category for Manhatta, a drama about Native Americans in the 17th century and today, produced by the Public Theater. Lighting designer Amith Chandrashaker was cited for The Comeuppance, about a group of fortysomething friends gathering for a class reunion, produced by Signature Theatre Company. In the sound design category, Ryan Rumery won for Stereophonic, a 1970s-era drama set in a recording studio, produced by Playwrights Horizons. Nicholas Hussong won for the projection design of Wet Brain.
