“This production was such a joy to work on because of the incredible teamwork. From our very first meeting, the entire team was on the same page, working hard to create a cohesive vision. Each department collaborated closely to address challenges—like ensuring the paint treatment on the floor supported projections, and that flying/automated elements didn’t hit lights, speakers, or projectors.
From a media perspective, I was excited to expand the world we were building. Scene one, set entirely on Laurey’s Farm, presented the challenge of keeping things visually engaging for over an hour. I created a consistent looping sky to ground us on the farm while the portal evolved dynamically with each musical number. Between songs, it returned to a patchwork textile design to reinforce the setting.
One of my favorite collaborations with our lighting designer, Robbie Kaylor, was the dream ballet. We spent time in the space together, exploring different lighting and media looks to ensure a unified picture. Using TouchDesigner and an overhead camera, I created a live-generated media effect that responded to the lighting intensity and the performers’ movements on stage. This added a dreamlike quality, as the motion blur from the dancers manipulated the media projected on the string drop, creating an ethereal, ever-changing texture.
This production was a true team effort, and I’m so proud of what we accomplished together!”
