"New ADJ" to be Showcased at LDI 2023 Through A Lightshow Designed & Programmed By Concert LD Steve Kosiba
November 14, 2023
ADJ is preparing to showcase its range of newly evolved professional lighting products designed for concert tours, festivals, and special events at the 2023 LDI tradeshow in Las Vegas. Alongside new products that will launch exclusively at the show, ADJ's Booth (#1443) will feature a lightshow designed by experienced concert LD, Steve Kosiba. This will showcase select fixtures from the brand's existing range of feature-packed fixtures, each specifically created to offer unrivaled return on investment to lighting designers, rental houses, production companies, and integrators.
A partner at Squeek Lights, the concert lighting specialist based in New Jersey, Kosiba has extensive experience in the lighting industry. He joined Squeek Lights after six years at Starlite Productions, where he was head of the automated lighting department, and, before that, spent years working as a house LD at many venues in and around Philadelphia. With comprehensive knowledge of Lighting Design and a particular specialism in time-coded programming, Steve is ideally placed to create a show that will stop LDI visitors in the aisles and showcase the full potential of ADJ's product catalog.
"My first experience with the 'new' ADJ gear was, as with many people in the concert market, the 32 HEX Panel IP," comments Kosiba. "It is a great fixture, which is very versatile and suitable for side light, foot light or drape light, and can also be used as a blinder, a strobe, or for pixel FX. It fills a lot of roles in the Squeek Lights rental inventory, and we recently sold a small venue a whole rig of ADJ HEX fixtures as well. This also included 15 HEX Bar IP and 7P HEX IP units and completely transformed the space. When the new Encore Lime fixtures came out, Squeek Lights picked up both the Encore Z7LP and Encore LB15IP. The lime bars are far brighter than our previous generation pixel strips and far sturdier. The zoom pars are fantastic: punchy, with a great zoom range and excellent color. We also have dozens of the Jolt Bar FX, which is the best bang for the buck strip strobe on the market. They've been rock solid for us, often going out on tour in our custom pre-rig touring carts. While working on ADJ's LDI booth, I've also been really impressed with the Focus Series of automated fixtures, so I wanted to feature as many as possible -- even units that have already been out for a year or more."
The Focus Spot 7Z, a feature-packed moving head launched earlier this year, will be an integral part of Kosiba's LDI rig. Powered by a potent 420W white light LED engine, which has a native color temperature of 8,000K, the unit's high-quality optics ensure a crisp and even output of up to 20,000 Lumens. Loaded with beam-shaping tools, this versatile automated luminaire provides lighting professionals with almost unlimited creative potential, the company says. Its feature set begins with CMY color mixing, which allows for a vast selection of colors to match any mood or look. There is also a variable CTO flag, which can be used to select any color temperature of white light output from 2,700K to 8,000K, and a separate 7-slot (plus open) dichroic color wheel. Two independent indexed-rotating replaceable GOBO wheels, each with seven slots plus open, allow for a choice of 14 different patterns. The fixture also features an indexed rotating animation wheel, which can be used to generate engaging and complex moving projections. The unit's extensive feature set is completed by motorized zoom, focus and iris; two rotating prisms and two frost filters.
Another recently released Focus Series fixture that will play a central role in the LDI lightshow is the Focus Flex L19. This professional moving head luminaire offers fast movement as well as an impressive zoom range, the company says, allowing it to generate both intense columns of light and wide washes of color. It is powered by 19 high output 40W RGBL (red, green, blue & lime) color mixing LEDs. These are arranged in three concentric circles across the face of the fixture and can be controlled independently to allow for the creation of "eye candy" animation patterns. The inclusion of the lime LED chip allows for an enhanced color palette as well as a high CRI of 84.2. The fixture's LEDs are positioned behind a textured front lens which focuses the light output as well as providing protection for the LEDs. The whole assembly is then mounted to a motorized zoom mechanism, which provides quick and precise beam angle alteration between 5° and 50°.
Also on display at LDI, and integrated into Kosiba's lighting design, will be the Encore LP12Z IP. Offering the ultimate utility lighting fixture, this unit sets a new benchmark for LED par can versatility. It offers huge brightness with lime-infused LEDs, motorized zoom for easy remote-controlled beam angle changes between 5° and 30° (9° to 50° field angle), a robust casing that can be used anywhere, an inbuilt wireless DMX transceiver for ultimate flexibly, and a heavy-duty scissor yoke that can be used either as a hanging bracket or floor stand. It is powered by 12 potent 20W quad color RGBL LEDs, which deliver a combined output of up to 4,400 lumens. 16-bit precision dimming control of the red, green, blue and lime LED chips allow for the creation of a huge gamut of output colors, while easy selection of popular options is facilitated via 64 preset macros. The fixture can also be used to output white light with color temperature variable between 2,700K and 6,500K. All these features, wrapped up in one keenly priced luminaire, make it well suited for touring and event production applications.
Having proved both effective and reliable on a series of tours over the past 18 months, the company says, the multifunctional Jolt Bar FX will also be present at ADJ's LDI show. A professional linear LED fixture, it delivers lighting designers huge output as well as the creative potential of brilliant bright white strobe/blinder LEDs combined with multi-zone color wash LEDs in one versatile unit. It features a central strip of 112 x 5W cool white SMD LEDs, surrounded on both sides by a total of 672 x 0.3W RGB color mixing SMD LEDs. This allows the same fixture to generate intense white strobing effects as well as vibrant color washes. Both types of LED are grouped into independently controllable zones (16 white and 32 color), which means the unit can also be used to generate strobe chases and other "eye candy" effects. Also included is a wide 116° beam angle.
"When we talk of the 'new ADJ' we're not referring only to our latest product releases but the evolution of the brand which has been ongoing for the past five or more years," explains ADJ USA's director of sales, Alfred Gonzales. "ADJ's current catalog of professional lighting solutions are all specifically targeted at the 'middle market' of the industry and have been tried and tested by countless production and rental companies worldwide. We have invited Steve Kosiba from Squeek Lights to be our guest LD at this year's LDI to help demonstrate the full potential of our lighting fixtures. Steve is an experienced and creative designer who is emersed in the touring/production world and I am certain the lightshow he is creating for LDI will amplify the ADJ brand and provide an authentic case study of how ADJ's lighting tools can be utilized by production companies in the professional mid-level entertainment lighting market."
The LDI Expo 2023 will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from Sunday November 3 thru Tuesday November 5. ADJ will be exhibiting from Booth #1443 where, alongside Kosiba's lightshow, the company's team of product specialists and sales support staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide one-on-one demos.
