Outer Critics Circle Awards Winners Announced

The winners of the Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced today. The OCC is the official organization of writers covering New York Theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications.
There is a tie in the category of Outstanding Scenic Design, with David Zinn, of the much-awarded music industry drama Stereophonic, sharing the nod with Paul Tate dePoo III, for his spectacular melding of scenery and projections in the musical The Great Gatsby. dePoo's colleague, Linda Cho, took the Outstanding Costume Design award for The Great Gatsby. Veteran Brian MacDevitt was cited for his stark work on the Broadway musical The Outsiders. The Outstanding Sound Design award went to Ryan Rumery for Stereophonic, the only play of the season with an audio mixer onstage. In the category of Outstanding Video/Projections, Peter Nigrini won for his stylized work on The Who's Tommy.
Taking multiple awards were Stereophonic, winner of four nods including Outstanding New Broadway Play; the Off Broadway musical Dead Outlaw, the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Primary Trust, and the Broadway musical Suffs, with three apiece; and The Great Gatsby, the Off Broadway revival of the 1960s musical I Can Get It for You Wholesale, and the historical spoof Oh, Mary!, with each two. (Oh, Mary!, an Off Broadway hit, transfers to Broadway in June.
